This 0.72 carat round ruby from Mozambique exhibits precise material specifications and refined lapidary execution, presented by The Natural Ruby Company. The stone measures 5.72 x 5.66 x 2.29 mm, with a round outline and a mixed brilliant cut, combining a brilliant style crown with a modified step or pavilion schema to harmonize color saturation and light return. Clarity grade is slightly included evaluated at eye level, a grade that reflects natural growth features preserved within a predominantly transparent crystal. Color is described as vivid in intensity, with strong chroma and even distribution across the table and facets. Polish is excellent, delivering crisp facet junctions and a smooth surface that enhances luster and minimizes light leakage. Enhancement is heat treated, a standard and stable process in the trade applied to modulate clarity and intensify red hues without compromising structural integrity. The cutter has balanced table size and crown height to maximize the apparent depth and to allow the vivid red to remain lively under varied lighting, while maintaining pavilion geometry that supports good return of light and scintillation.
As a narrative of origin and formation, this ruby began its story millions of years ago under conditions of elevated temperature and pressure, deep within zones of aluminum rich host lithologies where chromium was present as a trace element. Crystal nucleation occurred in silica bearing fluids or in metamorphosed carbonate horizons, where slow growth permitted formation of the corundum lattice and the substitution of chromium into aluminum sites, producing the red chromatic center. During growth, micro inclusions and structural zoning were captured, features that today inform the slightly included clarity grade and provide fingerprints of geologic history. Over geologic time tectonic uplift and erosion liberated crystals from their host, and mining in Mozambique recovered material prized for its vivid color. In the lapidary stage targeted heat treatment was applied to relieve rutile silk and to optimize transparency and color uniformity, followed by precision cutting and meticulous polishing to reveal the full optical potential. This specimen embodies both geologic time and human craftsmanship, making it a compact but technically sophisticated example of a Mozambique ruby from The Natural Ruby Company.
