This GIA certified purplish red ruby presents as a transparent, cushion shape gemstone weighing 2.06 carat, with precise dimensions of 7.70 x 6.55 x 3.89 mm. The stone is cut in a mixed brilliant fashion, combining a brilliant facet arrangement that maximizes light return with proportioned pavilion and crown angles that enhance face up brilliance. Clarity is graded as very slightly included, evaluated at eye level, and the gem displays vivid color intensity with an excellent polish. There is no enhancement reported, and the ruby is of Mozambique origin. The Natural Ruby Company supplies the accompanying certification and documentation to confirm these attributes.
The gemstone’s optical performance stems from both its intrinsic corundum structure and the exacting execution of the mixed brilliant cut. Corundum’s relatively high refractive index and strong internal reflection allow light entering the pavilion to be efficiently returned through the crown, and the mixed brilliant facet geometry creates repeated internal reflections and contrasting dark and bright areas that translate to lively scintillation. The cushion outline moderates the distribution of facets so that large, pure color flashes are combined with small, crisp pinpoints of light across the table and along the girdle, producing a depth of sparkle that is uncommon in simpler faceting styles. The vivid purplish red hue, unaltered by treatment, interacts with this facet architecture to generate a saturated, dynamic appearance rather than a flat tone, and the very slightly included clarity grade indicates minimal internal interruptions to the light path at normal viewing distances. Finally, the excellent polish and careful facet junctions ensure that light is reflected cleanly rather than scattered, preserving contrast and brilliance through movement. Together these structural and finishing qualities produce a ruby whose sparkle is unmatched by others, and which offers a strong visual presence suitable for a range of fine jewelry settings.
