Product description

This ring centers on a transparent, oval shape Ceylon ruby weighing 2.42 carats, with precise dimensions of 9.40 x 6.10 x 4.44 millimeters and a mixed brilliant cut, qualities that the craftwork at The Natural Ruby Company was selected to emphasize. The mixed brilliant cut combines a faceted crown that favors modified brilliant facet geometry, with a pavilion that balances brilliant facets to optimize light return and color saturation. The clarity is graded as very very slightly included, evaluated at eye level, a grade that ensures the stone reads clean to the unaided eye while retaining natural internal character under magnification. The ruby exhibits vivid color saturation and an excellent polish, attributes that together produce a pure, lively red that is stable across viewing angles. The proportions yield an approximate depth of 57 percent relative to the average diameter, a dimension that supports strong internal reflection while maintaining face up brilliance and color concentration.

From a lapidary perspective the mixed brilliant facet architecture is chosen to enhance the Ceylon origin color profile, by directing colored light back through the crown facets rather than allowing light to escape through the pavilion in the form of windowing. The crown has been cut to produce a balance of larger star and kite facets with secondary facets that fragment return light into multiple flashes, producing scintillation that reads as lively red highlights at different angles. The pavilion angles and girdle treatment were calibrated to preserve a clean table window and to maintain even color saturation across the oval surface, avoiding common issues of color leakage towards the edges. The excellent polish applied to all facet junctions increases specular highlights and reduces micro abrasion, so that the ruby maintains maximum brilliance under direct and diffused lighting.

The oval ruby is set within a halo of white round natural diamonds weighing approximately 0.504 carats in total, each stone graded Very Slightly Included, in grades VS1 and VS2, with a color grade of F, chosen to maximize contrast without introducing warmth. These diamonds are precision matched for size and optical performance, and they are set with low profile prongs that secure each stone while minimizing metal between diamonds, creating a contiguous band of white brilliance that frames the central ruby. The halo functions as an optical amplifier, increasing perceived surface area and drawing the eye inward to the ruby by way of graduated brightness. The ring is executed entirely in 18K yellow gold, the warm hue of which subtly intensifies the ruby red through complementary color interaction, while the polished shank provides reflective planes that guide the viewer to the head. The under gallery is engineered to allow unobstructed light entry to the pavilion, enhancing the ruby and diamond interaction and improving overall light performance.

The overall design strategy concentrates attention on the center stone through proportion, contrast, and engineered light management. The elevated yet open mount positions the ruby to capture and return light efficiently, the halo of F color diamonds creates a high luminosity perimeter that isolates and accents the red, and the tapered shank reduces visual distraction so that the optical focus remains on the oval table. Finishing techniques include precise prong alignment, consistent facet symmetry, and a hand polished bezel and shank transition that maintain geometric harmony with the oval profile. The Natural Ruby Company offers this ring as a study in color centric design, combining gemological selection and fine jewelry execution to present the ruby as the unequivocal focal point, suitable for a collector who values transparent documentation of origin, cut, and clarity, and for a connoisseur who appreciates deliberate interplay between faceting and setting.
