Product description

From the ruby bedrock of Burma, where monsoon winds and geological time conspired to concentrate chromium rich minerals, this heart shaped ruby began its journey as a raw crystal buried in river gravels and metamorphic seams. Miners guided by generations of local knowledge recovered rough material that to the untrained eye seemed ordinary, yet contained the seed of a vivid, living red. At The Natural Ruby Company we trace that journey carefully, the 2.03 carat transparent heart arriving to our cutters with promise and character. The cutter chose a mixed brilliant cut to honor the stone's internal color zoning and natural refractive structure, sculpting dimensions of 6.92 x 9.12 x 3.59 mm to balance weight and face up size. Slight inclusions are visible at eye level, a hallmark of natural origin that also lends the ruby a subtle, velvety depth. Heat treatment, a long accepted enhancement for Burmese rubies, was applied patiently to release the gem's vivid color intensity and to stabilize its tone. With an excellent polish across its many facets, the gem now sits as a luminous heart ready to be set, its rich red core glowing with a warmth that speaks of tropical earth and skilled hands.

When we compare reflective qualities, Burmese rubies often present a unique interplay of fluorescence and silk that creates a soft inner glow, and this specimen is no exception, yet its transparency and mixed brilliant cut give it a livelier facet scintillation than many more heavily included stones from the same region. Against other rubies, such as Sri Lankan or Madagascan examples that can be lighter or more pinkish, this Burmese heart reads as more saturated and more luminous under both daylight and incandescent light. Compared to spinel in the red family, which tends to show a cleaner, higher contrast brilliance, this ruby offers a deeper, more luxuriant glow rather than a crisp mirror flash. Compared to garnet, which often returns a warmer brownish red with less internal light play, this ruby returns more vivid, directional reflections and a richer color saturation. For a lover of natural gemstones who values origin, story, and the way light moves through a stone, this heart shaped 2.03 carat Burmese ruby from The Natural Ruby Company combines ancestral provenance, careful cutting, and excellent polish to produce a reflective character that is both romantic and technically appealing.
