Product description

From its first breath of earth in the rich soils of Mozambique to the precise moment it was set into platinum 950, this ruby has traveled a story of heat, pressure, and human devotion. Deep beneath the Mozambican landscape, chromium and aluminum waged their slow alchemy over millions of years, gifting the world a crystal whose hue reads like liquid flame. Miners who respect the land and the legacy of the stone unearthed a rough of remarkable promise, and that rough was selected for its depth of tone and clarity. At The Natural Ruby Company we trace this journey carefully, and this 2.61 carat gem arrived at our bench with a C.Dunaigre certified Vivid Red designation, a clarity grade described as eye clean when evaluated at eye level, and an excellent polish that hinted at the brilliance to come.

Shaping this rough into an 8.58 by 6.41 by 4.79 mm cushion shape required a cutter who understands both geometry and poetry. The cutter chose a mixed brilliant cut to honor the ruby, blending the soft rounded silhouette of a cushion with the energetic architecture of brilliant facets. The crown was carved to catch and fragment light, allowing each facet to act as a miniature mirror that draws white light into the body of the stone and returns it as vivid red fire. On the pavilion the angles were calculated to maximize light return, reducing leakage and encouraging internal reflection so that the color reads saturated and alive from every angle. The mixed brilliant approach means that small, precisely placed facets on the crown and pavilion create a dance of scintillation, while the larger pavilion facets preserve depth of color. This balance between sparkle and saturation is the secret to letting a vivid red ruby glow without losing its rich inner tone.

Once cut and polished to an excellent finish, the ruby found its home within a ring that speaks both of classic refinement and technical sympathy to light. The ring embraces the center stone with two white half moon shaped natural diamonds weighing approximately 0.50 carats in total, each graded Very Slightly Included with VS1 and VS2 clarity, and carrying a color grade of F. These half moon diamonds are more than accents, they are optical partners that frame the ruby and act as light channels, reflecting and refracting incoming rays into the ruby and back toward the eye. Along the shoulders a line of white round shaped natural diamonds, weighing approximately 0.30 carats in total, clarity VS and color F slash G, extends the conversation of light down the band, creating a rhythm of sparkle that complements the cushion mixed brilliant center. The entire assembly is set in platinum 950, a metal chosen for its cool tone and luminous strength, which does not compete with the ruby but instead provides a steadfast stage on which the color and brilliance can perform.

The final piece is an intimate ledger of provenance and craft, each detail deliberate so that the wearer feels the origin and the making with every glance. The mixed brilliant facets allow light to enter and escape in carefully moderated bursts, so that under daylight the ruby thrives with vivid saturation, and under evening lights it scintillates with lively flashes that trace the hands of time. The half moon diamonds cradle the stone, their triangular silhouettes easing light toward the center, while the pavé of round diamonds along the shank creates contrast and motion. The prong work and the open gallery are engineered to invite light upward, not to trap it, enabling the pavilion design to perform its work fully. The certification by C.Dunaigre is a promise that the vivid color and transparency are natural and authenticated, and The Natural Ruby Company stands behind that promise, offering a piece that is at once a geological marvel and a wearable jewel of modern precision.

This ring is more than an object, it is a conversation between earth and artisan, between light and color, a jewel that carries the warmth of Mozambique and the exacting skill of the cutter into a form meant for daily telling. To hold it is to feel the weight of 2.61 carats of ancient sunlight, cut into 8.58 by 6.41 by 4.79 mm of cushion shape brilliance, set among half moon and round diamonds that enhance and magnify its presence, all secured in platinum 950. It is a piece designed to catch and return attention, engineered so that every facet of its mixed brilliant cut works to maximize light reflection and brilliance while preserving the deep vivid red that defines its soul. When you choose this ring you bring home a story of origin, craft, and light, curated and presented by The Natural Ruby Company.
