Product description

This ruby is a precision documented specimen, GIA certified and sourced from Mozambique, presented in a heart shape weighing 2.04 carat, with exact dimensions of 8.02 by 8.40 by 3.08 millimeters. It exhibits a mixed brilliant cut executed to optimize both color saturation and light return, with a face up outline that balances the lobes and cleft for symmetrical appeal. The stone displays vivid color intensity, a pure red hue with strong saturation and medium to slightly deep tone that allows the red to remain dominant across lighting conditions. Clarity was evaluated at eye level and graded as very slightly included, the polish is graded excellent, and the material is natural with no enhancement, as confirmed by its GIA report. The depth ratio is approximately 37.5 percent, a proportion that the cutter selected deliberately to preserve carat weight without compromising the stones ability to transmit and return light, producing an even, vibrant face up appearance from table to girdle.

From a faceting and craftsmanship perspective the heart shape makes particular demands on facet placement, and this piece displays the hallmarks of meticulous cutting. The mixed brilliant strategy pairs a brilliant style crown with a pavilion that has been modified to balance brilliance and color retention, the crown facets are arranged to maximize scintillation along the lobes while the pavilion planes are positioned to direct light through the red body color rather than leaking it out as brights or darks. The table is proportionate to the overall outline, allowing a substantial window of red color while minimizing the visibility of localized inclusions, and the girdle has been faceted to a consistent thickness to facilitate secure mounting without sacrificing symmetry. The lobes are even and the cleft is crisply formed, which is a technical achievement in heart cutting at this size, and the excellent polish produces clean facet junctions and crisp facet reflections that enhance the stones apparent clarity under inspection.

The internal features of this Mozambique ruby are what give it an unmistakable signature, and these characteristics are both diagnostic and aesthetically compelling. The predominant inclusions are fine, subparallel silk of rutile that is organized in narrow growth aligned bands, giving a subtle satiny texture when viewed at oblique angles and contributing to the stones depth of color by scattering light in a controlled manner. Interspersed among these silk bands are discrete mineral crystals and small negative crystals, some of which occupy sheltered positions near the pavilion where they act as localized reflectors, producing pinpoint flashes of intense red when the stone is viewed in direct, focused light. There are also minor two phase inclusions and healed growth fissures that manifest as soft, fingerprint like trails under magnification, these features interact with the silk to create zones of slightly different internal luster, a microstructural fingerprint that is consistent with natural formation in Mozambique and that aligns with the untreated status recorded on the GIA certificate. The cutter has oriented the table and pavilion so that the most eye noticeable inclusions are carried to the girdle or pavilion, limiting their visual impact face up while allowing microscopic examination to reveal the stones natural history. For jewelry use this heart shape ruby is ideally set with secure V style or rounded prongs at the cleft to protect the point and to showcase the face up color, and a partially open setting will allow light to enter the pavilion to exploit the silk and crystal interplay for maximum internal glow. The Natural Ruby Company offers this gem with its GIA documentation and with the recommendation that routine care avoid harsh thermal shock and strong ultrasonic cleaning to preserve both the polish and the integrity of the natural inclusions that define its character.
