This ruby began its life deep within the highlands of Burma, where centuries of geological alchemy produced chromium rich corundum of exceptional character. From the mine it was brought to light as a rough crystal, then entrusted to a cutter who revealed its heart with careful decisions about proportion and facet placement. The result is a transparent, C.Dunaigre certified vivid red ruby, cushion shaped, 2.76 carat, measuring 7.80 by 7.74 by 4.63 millimeters, faceted in a mixed brilliant cut with excellent polish. Evaluated at eye level as very slightly included, and free of any enhancement, this stone keeps an honest, natural presence that speaks of both its Burmese origin and the skilled hands that finished it. Wearing it you carry a fragment of ancient mica schists and river beds, a narrative preserved in a gemstone that catches light with a lively, saturated pulse.
When I compare its hue and tone to rubies and other famous gemstones from well known sources, the personality of this gem becomes clearer. Its vivid red, intense and pure, evokes the classic Mogok or central Burmese pigeon blood reds, yet it leans pleasantly toward a slightly warm, lively core that is less overtly purple than many Montepuez Mozambique rubies, and cleaner in tone than the brownish red that sometimes characterizes Thai stones. Against Sri Lankan or Ceylon rubies it reads deeper and more saturated, where those often show lighter, pinker tendencies. Compared with spinels from the same region, which can be brilliant but often flatter in tone, this ruby shows a richer depth and a more complex internal fire. For the collector or the person seeking a jewel with provenance and presence, this Burmese ruby sits among the finest expressions of classic red, combining the storied prestige of Myanmar origin with the practical virtues of excellent cut and polish. At The Natural Ruby Company we present this gem as a transparent, unenhanced testament to natural beauty and meticulous craftsmanship, an heirloom ready to become the centerpiece of a meaningful piece.
