This 0.56 carat emerald cut red ruby measures 6.15 by 4.11 by 2.08 mm, and is presented by The Natural Ruby Company. The gem displays intense color intensity, a clarity grade of slightly included when evaluated at eye level, and an excellent polish. It has undergone controlled heat treatment to enhance color and improve transparency, and it originates from Mozambique. Structurally, this ruby is a transparent specimen of corundum, the crystalline form of aluminum oxide, with a refractive index near 1.76 to 1.77 and a hardness of nine on the Mohs scale. Those inherent material properties allow for high light return and durable facet edges, which are essential to sustained brilliance and precise facet geometry.
The emerald cut geometry of this stone produces a distinctive optical signature. Long, parallel step facets on the crown and pavilion create broad, mirror like flashes rather than a profusion of pinpoint scintillation, generating a depth of light and color that is both controlled and vivid. The well balanced proportions, paired with excellent polish, produce crisp facet junctions and smooth facet planes that act as efficient reflectors. Slight inclusions are present at face up observation, yet their position and character do not significantly interrupt the path of light through the table and pavilion, allowing broad flashes of red to move across the surface as the stone is tilted. Heat treatment has reduced microscopic silk and softened contrast between inclusions and host material, increasing transparency and uniformity of hue. In combination, the corundum crystal properties, the precise emerald cut, and the superior finish yield a ruby whose interplay of color, depth, and reflected light offers a refined sparkle that is distinct among colored gemstones.
