Deep within the Precambrian and Mesozoic architecture of the continental crust, this Mozambique ruby began its story millions of years ago as aluminum rich corundum nucleating in a high temperature, high pressure metamorphic environment. Trace chromium was incorporated into the corundum lattice at the atomic scale during protracted regional metamorphism and metasomatic fluid events, imparting the essential red hue. Progressive recrystallization and episodic hydrothermal activity sculpted the crystal, promoting dense, euhedral growth and the retention of internal lattice strain and characteristic mineral inclusions. Subsequent tectonic uplift and surface erosion exhumed the host rocks, liberating the ruby into weathering profiles and secondary alluvial systems where mechanical rounding and transport selectively winnowed crystals. The particular crystal that became this gem preserved sufficient crystalline integrity to yield a transparent specimen, and it reached the lapidary stage with its natural chemistry, no heat or glass enhancement, and an origin traceable to Mozambique, as confirmed by GIA certification.
The lapidary treatment for this 0.98 carat oval, with dimensions of 7.19 by 5.36 by 2.60 mm, employed a mixed brilliant cut to reconcile optical return with color saturation. The cutting design marries brilliant style crown facets to a pavillion scheme that moderates light leakage, optimizing scintillation while preserving the stone face up color. Facet geometry was executed to maintain excellent polish and precise facet junctions, contributing to intense color intensity and controlled light performance. The clarity grade recorded as very slightly included at eye level indicates small, localized inclusions that do not materially interfere with the gem face up appearance, and which are consistent with natural formation processes. The proportions yield a shallower profile, approximately 41 percent depth relative to average diameter, which enhances perceived spread and face up brilliance while the strong chromium content maintains a richly saturated red. This ruby arrives GIA certified, unenhanced, and ready for secure setting, and The Natural Ruby Company stands behind its provenance and craftsmanship, offering this stone to connoisseurs who value geological authenticity, precise cutting, and uncompromised natural color.
