Product description

This transparent 1.02 carat cushion shape ruby measures 6.27 by 5.97 by 2.68 mm, and is executed in a mixed brilliant cut that pairs a faceted brilliant crown with a more angular pavilion geometry, a combination selected to maximize apparent depth while preserving weight, the cushion outline maintains classical proportions and the pavilion faceting reduces windowing so the intense pinkish red color reads uniformly across the table, clarity is graded slightly included when examined at eye level, polish is excellent and there is no enhancement, origin is Burma Myanmar. The cutter has oriented the pavilion and crown facets to work with the natural growth directions, producing a balanced light return and a lively interplay between flash and body color, the mixed brilliant faceting results in triangular and kite shaped crown facets that break up light into vivid flashes, while the lower facets are longer and more planar to deepen the central color saturation.

What gives this ruby an unmistakable signature are its internal features, the stone exhibits a network of fine silk composed of dense, oriented rutile needles that diffuse light and produce a velvety body tone unique to high quality Burmese material, these silks are often arranged in parallel growth zones and under magnification they create soft planes that moderate the stone brightness and intensify the red hue, additionally there are discrete crystal inclusions and minute negative crystals that act as light traps at certain angles, these populate the pavilion and near girdle region, the presence of healed fissures and fingerprint type clouds attest to the natural growth history and to gentle post growth stress, these healed interfaces scatter light in a way that enhances the overall color saturation instead of diminishing it, the combination of oriented silk, tiny crystals, and healed fingerprints produces a diagnostic texture and optical depth that is consistent with unenhanced Burmese rubies, when set the mixed brilliant cut and excellent polish allow the characteristic inclusions to animate the gemstone, the stone will present a lively, saturated pinkish red face up, with subtle internal motion when the light or viewing angle changes, this ruby is ideal for collectors and connoisseurs who value provenance and natural origin, and it is offered by The Natural Ruby Company.
