This ruby began as a crystal embedded in the alluvial gravels of Mozambique, a region known for producing stones with vivid saturation and notable clarity. In the field, extractive teams identified the piece by its compact crystal form and its remarkably free appearance to the naked eye. The rough was removed with care to preserve maximum material, and it passed through primary sorting where size, color and internal character were noted. At that stage the piece already suggested a strong potential for a fine, transparent gem, and the decision was made to reserve it for precision cutting rather than for lower yield fashion cutting. This approach reduced unnecessary loss of weight while allowing the cutter to plan a facet scheme that would emphasize color and light return.
During the cutting phase the cutter opted for an oval outline and a mixed brilliant facet arrangement to balance brilliance with face up color. The final gem is an oval shape pinkish red ruby weighing 2.06 carat, with dimensions 8.22 by 6.13 by 4.90 mm. The mixed brilliant cut provides a brilliant crown and a modified pavilion that together maximize scintillation and preserve color saturation. The material presents as transparent, with light transmission that supports both lively facet contrast and depth of hue. The polish was executed to an excellent standard, producing clean, crisp facet junctions and mirror like surfaces that enhance the stone clarity and the apparent depth of tone.
Following cutting the ruby was evaluated and modestly enhanced through controlled heat treatment, a standard and widely accepted practice when applied to natural ruby. Heat treatment in this instance was used to stabilize and intensify existing color centers, and to eliminate minor inclusions that could affect clarity or durability. The gem was examined at eye level and graded as very very slightly included, a designation that reflects minimal visibility of internal features without magnification, and a transparency that reads as clean to the unaided eye. Color assessment placed the stone at intense color intensity, a classification indicating strong saturation and a vivid presence under standard lighting. These factors together yield a balance of weight, color and transparency that is appropriate for fine jewelry applications.
The finished stone was catalogued and prepared for market presentation by The Natural Ruby Company, with provenance information tracing from the Mozambican alluvial field, through cutting, to final evaluation. Documentation includes the treatment disclosure, the measured dimensions and carat weight, and a description of the cut and clarity as observed at eye level. The combination of a 2.06 carat weight, oval shape, mixed brilliant cut, transparent body, very very slightly included clarity grade, intense color intensity, excellent polish, and heat treatment supports its use in high quality settings where enduring color and optical performance are required. For gemologists and designers the stone represents a well documented example of a contemporary Mozambican ruby, suitable for secure setting and long term enjoyment, and presented with clear information for informed selection.
