This translucent, 2.33 carat round ruby, measuring 7.25 x 7.18 x 5.06 mm, began its journey in the gem fields of Mozambique, a region known for producing stones with lively red tones and appealing translucency. Extracted through responsible artisanal and small scale mining practices, the rough crystal displayed a saturated red tone and a fine internal structure that suggested a cabochon finish would best reveal its inherent depth of color. From the time of extraction the stone was logged, photographed, and assessed for potential, the attributes and provenance recorded to ensure traceability. During the initial assessment the decision to retain a slightly included clarity grade at eye level was made to preserve carat weight and the natural character of the crystal, while a controlled heat treatment was later applied to stabilize and intensify the vivid color that distinguishes this specimen.
After treatment the rough was gently shaped into a round cabochon, the convex profile chosen to maximize the ruby's translucent qualities and surface luster, and the proportions were set to the dimensions of 7.25 x 7.18 x 5.06 mm to balance face up color with depth. The cutting process focused on maintaining material integrity and minimizing the visibility of inclusions at eye level, while the polishing phase achieved an excellent polish that enhances light transmission and tactile finish. Each stage was documented and inspected under standard gemological lighting, confirming the vivid color intensity and the slightly included clarity grade. Upon completion of cutting and finishing, the stone underwent final quality control and was catalogued by The Natural Ruby Company, where the origin Mozambique, the heat treatment enhancement, and the measured specifications were verified and recorded. The finished ruby arrives to market as a thoughtfully prepared gem, presenting a combination of natural origin, considered enhancement, and expert finishing, suitable for settings that emphasize color and subtle translucency.
