Myanmar (the country formerly known as Burma) is known to produce rubies with a vivid purplish-red color that’s considered the finest among collectors. Here’s one such ruby, described as red, with a “vivid” color intensity rating, our strongest for the gemstone. Its clarity is slightly included, meaning inclusions or small internal crystals are only slightly visible on close inspection. As is the case with many rubies, it has been heated to modify its color and appearance, but its color stability rating is “excellent,” as certified by the American Gemological Laboratories, which helps ensure its durability. Its oval shape has a good length-to-width ratio, suitable for a stand-alone setting.
