This ruby began as aluminum rich sediments and crystalizing fluids deep within the Precambrian crust, subjected to intense regional metamorphism and progressive recrystallization over millions of years, chromium introduced during metamorphic fluid pulses substituted for aluminium in the corundum lattice, imparting the vivid red chromatic center that defines this stone. Under sustained temperatures and pressures the corundum lattice organized into well formed hexagonal crystals, microscopic silk and rutile inclusions recorded the temperature history and fluid composition during growth, later hydrothermal circulation and tectonic uplift exhumed the crystal bearing horizons to near surface levels where erosion liberated gem quality crystals from their host matrix. The rough from Mozambique carried the signatures of its origin, with a stable chromium driven hue and a trace element profile that responds favorably to controlled heat treatment, a process that has been used selectively to enhance clarity and deepen tone without compromising the integrity of the crystal structure, the result is a transparent, stable red corundum that presents a vivid color intensity and strong saturation.
The finished gem offered by The Natural Ruby Company is a C.Dunaigre certified vivid red ruby, weighing 3.08 carat, cut into a classic emerald cut with dimensions of 9.64 x 7.02 x 3.77 mm, the length to width ratio near 1.37 produces a broad table and generous step facets that emphasize uniform color distribution while minimizing unwanted light leakage. The cutting philosophy focused on preserving weight and maximizing face up color, with precisely executed step facets on the crown and pavilion, a controlled table size to balance flash and depth, and an excellent polish that optimizes surface reflection and color transmission. Clarity is graded very slightly included at eye level, inclusions are minimal and oriented so that the eye perceives transparency rather than cloudiness, and the stone has undergone a stable heat enhancement to reduce silk and unify tone, a common and accepted practice for Mozambican rubies that improves visual performance while retaining natural origin. The combination of provenance, C.Dunaigre certification, vivid color intensity, and meticulous faceting makes this emerald cut ruby an excellent choice for a high quality solitaire or bespoke mounting, and The Natural Ruby Company stands behind the gem with detailed documentation and expert guidance on setting and conservation.
